About
Introduction
Rosedale Abbey is a countryside park set in the village of Rosedale Abbey, which is in the North York Moors National Park. It is situated 10 miles from the market town of Pickering. The park is relatively flat, with slight inclines and declines as the park meanders away from the reception and entrance area.
Rosedale Abbey accepts touring caravans, motorhomes, campervans and camping pitches, as well as having glamping pods and cottages to hire. Four of the five cottages available to hire may be suitable for disabled guests as they are level and on the ground floor, although there are no provisions such as wheelchair adapted bathrooms.
Pre-arrival
The park is situated in the village of Rosedale Abbey (YO18 8SA) and is 10 miles from Pickering.
By car – From the South, East and West, once on the A170 turn towards Cropton and Rosedale just before/after Pickering, the village is signposted on the main road and from the turn off until you reach the village. Our park is located on the left as you enter the village, just after the small bridge which goes up Chimney Bank. Not to be confused with The Caravan and Motorhome Club Site – The Howard, which is the first park on the left.
From the North, from the A171 follow signs towards Castleton and when in Castleton take a left on to the Main Street. At the fork in the road, take the left of the two options and then take the next left. Keep an eye out for the road signs which direct you to Rosedale Abbey.
By train - The nearest mainline railway station is at Malton, which is 18.4 miles from the park. Accessible taxis are available from the station.
By bus – There is a bus service operated by Moorsbus please follow the link for more info www.moorbus.org
The nearest Shopmobility is in Scarborough, about 28 miles from Rosedale Abbey. We can provide any further information on equipment hire, wheelchair repair and other services upon request in reception.
Car parking and arrival
When entering the park, there is a level, tarmacked surface with 15+ parking spaces by the stream, including approximately 5 right outside the reception. There is a barrier preventing access to the park until guests have checked in. There are no blue badge spaces, but there is parking immediately opposite the reception.
Visitors can check-in without leaving their vehicle upon request with prior arrangement. There is a ramp for access to the reception or 6 shallow steps. The ramp is concrete and level. Access to the park via ANPR barrier, you will need to inform Reception of your car registration on check-in to gain entry to the park.
There are low amounts of lighting in the car park for reception. Please take care if you are arriving in the dark.
Reception
As mentioned above, there is a ramp for access to the reception which has a hand rail. It is level, and the hand rail is on both sides of the ramp. The clear door opening width is 78cms (30¾ inches). The layout of the reception is rectangular, with a reception desk to the left as you enter.
The reception also houses the small shop, which provides food essentials, toys and camping/touring essentials on shelving units along the walls or in the middle section.
The reception and shop are level throughout and on a firm surface of grey vinyl. There is wide access through both isles of shelving.
There is evenly spread and the reception is well lit via ceiling panel lighting.
The desk has a wheelchair accessible section.
Unfortunately there is no hearing loop system. We can provide standard office equipment to help anyone at reception and we can also assist visitors to their pitch or accommodation if required.
Touring and camping facilities
There are hard standing pitches available for touring caravans, while all camping pitches are on grass, either with or without electric hook-up.
Assistance with pitching of tourers is offered if required and all guests are directed to their pitch by the park warden. There is space for one car to park beside the touring or camping pitch.
Facilities are not signposted, but the notices that are on signage are a white background and green writing.
There are water points, chemical disposal points, dustbin areas, fire points on the park. Listed below are the estimated furthest distance from any pitch:
Water and fire points – 100m
Chemical disposal – 300m
Dustbins – 400m
Pitches are allocated on arrival and the park wardens will advise on the suitability of pitches available at that point.
Toilet and Washing Facilities
There are two blocks of touring and camping facilities on the park, both have toilets, showers, a disabled wash room and toilet, laundrette, pots and pans room, and chemical disposal points. Each block is a replica of the other. One is located half way up the park by the children's play area and the other is at the top of the park near the glamping pods.
The 2 pots and pans rooms have two sinks in each.
The disabled toilets are locked and a key can be obtained from reception, with a refundable deposit of £10 cash. The mens and ladies blocks are accessed via a key pad, the code is given to you on check-in at Reception. There is no designated parking at the toilet block near the play area, although there is a gravel path that could be used if necessary. Again there is space for parking at the toilet block near the pods.
Accessible/disabled shower and toilet
There is level entry with no steps or ramps in to the disabled toilet and shower room. The clear door opening width is 68cms (26¾ inches). To the left of the WC there is a 160cm space and the height of the WC is 48cms from floor to seat. There is an adjustable grab rail which can be changed between a horizontal position and vertical position. There is also a vertical, static hand rail to the right of the WC.
In the event of an emergency, staff would check on the disabled shower room and toilet blocks. The disabled shower room is well lit with a singular light in the centre of the room. The floor is tiled, so extra care is needed when the floor is wet. The sink has lever taps.
In the men's toilet blocks there are, 4 WCs, 4 urinals, 4 showers and 6 sinks, while in the ladies there are 6 WCs, 5 showers and 6 sinks.
